EAST Branxton man Craig Pike, 31, almost lost his own life trying to help two teenagers in a car crash on the New England Highway near his home.

He suffered multiple 240-volt electric shocks about 3am on Sunday after standing on a fallen power line in bare feet when he went to the scene to assist the teenagers trapped in the wreckage.

In excruciating pain, Mr Pike then fell in a puddle where he was stunned again by the strong electric pulse.
