Bronwyn Pike

Take the time to reflect on your remarkable achievements, says Bronwyn Pike.

I WOULD like to congratulate the 47,000 students who have just completed their Victorian Certificate of Education and 6800 who have successfully obtained a Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

Of course this is an exciting time for these students, but as a former teacher I also get a sense of satisfaction from hearing the stories of students who have devoted their passion and energy to completing their studies this year.

Getting your VCE or VCAL results is a moving and rewarding experience, so make sure you do take the time to reflect on the remarkable things you have done. Many students will continue studying next year in courses at Victoria's TAFEs or universities, while others will join the workforce or take up an apprenticeship.

Whatever path you take, the effort you have put into your education will pay off for years to come.

You have acquired skills that prepare you for work, life and for the other experiences and challenges you will face.

In this supplement, you will find a list of students who have obtained outstanding VCE results, having gained study scores of 40 or higher.

It is not easy to achieve excellence at this level and I congratulate these students for their hard work and dedication.

But there are thousands more students who have not reached these high levels but also deserve recognition of their hard work. Students who have put in consistent effort and worked hard to do their best should feel just as proud of their achievements.

And remember, if you happen to feel that you didn't achieve your best there will be other opportunities for you to shine later in life.

Study scores are not the only measure of your success. You may have taken up a leadership role and contributed to sporting teams, performing arts or community projects. If so, you have brought energy and culture into your schools. You have set a great example for the next generation of students.

Like VCE students, the Victorian Government has also been working hard to ensure every student receives a high-quality education and genuine opportunities to succeed. Once again, congratulations to all VCE and VCAL students and I wish you all the best for the future.
